We pet sit dogs, cats, and chickens on Rover and use the following questions to guide our onboarding.
Deal Breakers:
- are they crate trained?
- do they have separation anxiety and how is it presented?
- are they vocal? do they bark or whine a lot?
- do you sleep with the dog? Do they need to sleep with us?
Get to know the dog:
- do they jump on people?
- do they lick faces?
- what’s their energy level and how much do we need to fire them out?
- what tricks do they know?
- are they allowed on furniture?
- how are they around other people and pets? Say we go for a walk and we pass other dogs in the hallway or elevator. Or a friend comes over. Or we go out for coffee with friends?
- what were previous sitters experience?
- how do they ask for bathroom? Is their bathroom pretty regular and easy? How is their bladder control?
- do they have triggers? Small dogs, squirrels, skateboards, fireworks, etc.
- do they have allergies?
- any bad habits to watch out for? Some dogs eat off the floor or eat poop or counter surf.
Logistics:
- do you have local contacts in case of emergency? i.e. vet, friends, family
- when is pickup and drop off? Keep us updated!
- how often do you want photos and updates? Time zones and stuff.
- exchange contacts in case something comes up and for follow ups
- rough schedule of food, walking needs, meds
